Yamaha recently announced that its Indian motorcycle manufacturing subsidiary India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. had reached a total accumulated production volume of 10 million units! Motorcycle demand in India is growing every year against a background of rising incomes and the increasing role of women in society. Current annual demand is around 22 million units, making India the world’s largest motorcycle market. Yamaha Motor began motorcycle production in India in 1985, and now manufactures parts and assembles completed motorcycles in three locations, Surajpur, Faridabad, and Chennai.

Pirelli and Yamaha have confirmed their support for the seventh edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp, a unique training school, organised by the manufacturer and the VR46 Riders Academy of Valentino Rossi. Participants at the event, which will be held at the end of May at the Autodromo di Modena, will use YZF-R3s equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Supercorsa tyres. The event will involve five young talents selected by Yamaha from the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship. This class runs within the Pirelli-sponsored MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Series. The selected riders for the event are Dutchman Finn de Bruin (18), Italians Kevin Sabatucci (20) and Jacopo Facco (19), French rider Andy Verdoïa (16) and young Spanish racer Beatriz Neila (17), who is also the first woman to ever attend an edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp. German tyre brand Metzeler enjoyed a major share of the spoils at the 2019 North West 200, the opening round of the road racing season. Metzeler riders took victory in the Superbike, Superstock and Supertwin races alongside additional podiums in the Supersport category. The now traditional Thursday evening races saw disaster strike Seeley as he crashed out whilst battling for the lead, however both Harrison and Hillier were able to reach the podium with second and third. The opening Superstock race saw Irwin kick off his North West 200 with a second place whilst the Supertwin race saw a podium clean sweep as Stefano Bonetti took his maiden International Road Race victory ahead of Jamie Coward and Michael Rutter. Yamaha has announced its line-up for this year’s 42nd Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race, which will take place from July 25th to 28th at the legendary Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture, Japan. The #21 Yamaha Factory Racing Team will be aiming to take an unprecedented fifth consecutive victory at the event and will be joined on the track by the #7 YART Yamaha Official EWC Team as part of their 2018–2019 Endurance World Championship (EWC) season. The factory team’s YZF-R1 will sport a special revival of the 1985 Yamaha TECH21 Team livery as a nod to the origin of the team’s iconic #21 race number, as well as to mark 21 years since the YZF-R1 was first released. MX World Champion Jeffrey Herlings has thrown his leg back over his KTM 450 SX-F, but no date has yet been set for his return, following surgery on his right foot in January. The 24 year old has been completing short practice sessions on his bike for almost three weeks and has recovered enough strength and stability in his foot in the wake of surgery at the beginning of the year to repair several fractures. The Dutchman sustained the injury three weeks before the start of the 2019 season in a training accident in Spain. The reigning number 1 MX rider is in the later phases of his recovery but still has to confirm a Grand Prix for his return to action. After four years of planning and construction, Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has opened the KTM Motohall in Mattighofen, the hometown of Europe’s biggest motorcycle brand. 400 guests attended the opening, including the regional governor Thomas Stelzer, the Mattighofen town mayor, and prominent Austrian industry leaders. The “RC16” area of the spectacular building was completely filled with guests, including many who have closely followed the activities of KTM. The very first KTM series motorcycle was produced back in 1953, close to where today’s new KTM Motohall is located. Holland’s Dirttrack Lelystad hosted the first ever Indian Motorcycle European Championship during the amazingly popular annual Hells Race meeting at the beginning of May. Over 150 riders raced classes including Hooligan, Vintage, Pro, Amateur, Newbie and Minibike. The program was action packed with some fantastic racing around Holland’s premier short track venue. In the Hooligan class the racing was fast and tough on the soft light shale surface. The big bikes were hard to handle on the tight and deep short track, and rain during the afternoon made the racing really tricky. It was Gary Birtwistle who skillfully lead the final from beginning to end. After a poor start Max Hunt managed to race to a very well deserved second place. MotoE’s bike manufacturer Energica has been busy building new Corsa units for the first-ever edition of the all-electric world series on July 7th at the Sachsenring in Germany, following the devastating fire in Jerez in March which destroyed most of the bikes. “On the day after the fire in Jerez, we knew a special effort had to be made” says Energica’s CEO Livia Cevolini. “There was no time to waste, despite witnessing what happened – which was surely something very hard to deal with.
