German tyre brand Metzeler has been announced as the technical partner for the 2019 World Enduro Super Series (WESS), the multi-discipline motorcycle championship for professionals and amateurs. Established in 2018 with the aim of combining various competitive enduro formats under one title, the championship is now entering its second year, after a successful debut season. WESS combines many of the world’s most well-established and supported enduro events and annually crowns the ultimate enduro champion. The series includes Hard Enduro, Classic Enduro and Cross-Country style events, where all enduro athletes are free to compete on their preferred make and size of motorcycle. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team’s Cooper Webb secured his first-career 450SX Championship at the season finale, giving the brand its fourth premier class title aboard the 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION. His teammate, Marvin Musquin, finished second on the night and third in the overall championship. Webb, a two-time Western Regional 250SX Champion, joined the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team at the end of 2018. Developed by Aprilia Racing, the RSV4 X was designed with the sole aim of offering maximum performance on track. Alicia Sornosa, an adventurous Spanish motorcyclist, has travelled 15,000 km on her Ducati Scrambler Urban Enduro, down the backbone of East Africa. The journey, which Alicia undertook for charity, started in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and crossed Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and Lesotho, before finally arriving in Cape Town, South Africa. Alicia encountered a number of incredible experiences during the challenging but gratifying journey, helping her draw attention to the many problems that, unfortunately, afflict the African continent. Her achievement has had a strong response in Spain, so much so that she was rewarded by the Spanish Geographical Society with their “Journey of the year 2018” award, which was handed to her personally by King Felipe VI of Spain, during a public ceremony. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing cleaned up in the first round of the 2019 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship with Sam Sunderland taking the top step of the podium, ahead of teammate Luciano Benavides. Sunderland lead the overall standings by a narrow 18 seconds over the second-placed rider coming into the final stage, which wound its way north for a total of 351.96 kilometres, with a 214.47-kilometre special testing the riders before the finish at the famous Yas Marina Circuit.
